Superior Auto Body Saskatoon has been in business since 1961, and we have been an SGI ELITE Autobody shop and have been SGI accredited since 1982. There are many reasons we have so many loyal long standing clients from all over the city, but mostly it is the small, personal touches that we offer to people who have been unfortunate enough to require our services. We offer newer model courtesy cars and vans for our clients..and to help out we will also pick up your vehicle and take it to your SGI appointment for you and deliver the courtesy car to you at home. In our latest accident prevention tips, we discuss the steps to take if you are involved in a fender bender.
Involved in a Fender Bender? Here’s What You Need to Know
Fender benders are never planned and can add to an already stressful day, week or even month! With the added stress, we tend to forget what to do when it happens. Here are a few tips from Superior Auto Body in Saskatoon to keep in the back of your mind when you are involved in a fender bender.
Fender Bender? First Things First, Remain Calm
There is never a convenient time for an accident to happen but if it does, it never helps to go into a furious rage. Collect your thoughts and take a deep breath after you pull over to the shoulder if on a highway or busy street to ensure you are in a safe area to proceed calmly.
Is Everyone Okay?
Make sure all parties in each vehicle are not injured. Also think about going for a check-up even if you feel fine in the moment, just to avoid any long term problems.
Exchange Information After a Fender Bender
It is important to get the other driver’s contact information right away. When information is exchanged, neither party can claim that the other left the scene without speaking to each other and accessing the damage done.
As a driver in Saskatchewan you are required to provide your name, address, driver’s licence number and vehicle licence plate number to any other persons involved in a collision, regardless of the severity. If a non-Saskatchewan vehicle is involved, or if you are involved in a collision outside Saskatchewan, you are also required to provide information on the company that insures your vehicle.
SGI also recommends not to provide or accept any payment for the repairs unless you are prepared to handle the matter without the help of your insurance company.
Take Lots of Pictures
It is always a good idea to take pictures after a fender bender. Take pictures of the damage done to the vehicles from multiple angles. You always want more information than not enough when it comes to even a minor collision.
Report to SGI
You can report your claim online using the SGI Auto eClaim registration service, or call Dial-A-Claim at the claims centre closest to your home (see the SGI information pages at the front of every SaskTel phone book).
